The message is simple: we’ve listened and we’re ready to deliver.
The team in place to execute the new merchant focused strategy is headed up by Tony Miles, the company's Chief Executive, Phil Lomas, Operations Director, Damian Bracken Commercial Director, Josh Burbidge, Business Development Director and Andy Simms, Financial Director.
With a combined experience of over 75 years in the timber industry, the team is well placed to deliver the next stage of growth for the Archwood Group, enabling it to become ‘the UK’s premier supplier of sustainable timber components’.
Chief Executive, Tony Miles joined the Archwood Group in February 2017. A well-known figure in the UK timber industry, Tony has worked in the trade for his entire career, in that time he has supported the trade through many external bodies. He currently holds the title of Director of the Confederation of Timber Industries.
Tony has a well-earned reputation for excellent customer service, driven by his strong customer engagement, product knowledge and employee development. He is now focused on building the right team to deliver the next stage of growth for the Archwood Group.
Phil Lomas, heading up operations brings with him many years’ experience in manufacturing excellence, and has for the last 12 years been working in timber manufacturing and distribution. His focus will be on maintaining the high quality products the Archwood Group is famous for, backed up by a reliable ultra-competitive service model.
Damian Bracken, Commercial Director brings over 16 years’ experience in the timber industry in sales and supply chain management. Damian’s expertise has been in building sales and product teams which are made up of great staff who can offer sound advice and a friendly support service.
Josh Burbidge has worked in a number of commercial areas of Archwood over the past 10 years. Josh has taken on responsibility for the Atkinson & Kirby brand and is investing in key people, new products and strengthening the brand offer.
The final member of the team is Andy Simms. Andy has worked in finance across a number of different sectors, and has been with the Archwood Group for a number of years. Andy has now stepped up to the role of Financial Director, completing the senior leadership team.

We will always endeavor to add value through great products, delivered at the most competitive prices in order to allow our customer to manage their own margins and profitability. Our customers will always be allowed to choose whatever brand or product suits their business. Our role is to engage with our customers, help whenever we are invited to and never to dictate.
In 2018 Richard Burbidge will be launching a new range of products and services that will broaden the offering for our customers. The extensive manufacturing facilities and services within the Archwood Group will be further utilised to provide new and tailored timber products to align more closely with an individual merchant’s requirements.
Since Tony’s appointment, the Archwood Group has made a conscious effort to listen to its merchant customers and act on the feedback it has received. The new strategy places merchants at the forefront of the business, with new processes in place to ensure an improved service, and increased range of products moving forward.
With the team fully committed to executing this new strategy, merchants can expect to reap the rewards and benefits moving forward.
The Archwood Group has announced the appointment of Tony Miles as the company's new Chief Executive, with effect from February 1st 2017.
Tony Miles joins Archwood from International Timber, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution, where he has been Managing Director since 2007, having initially joined the group in 1979, where he and his team were responsible for achieving sustained growth. well-known figure in the UK timber and wood products industry, Tony Miles has worked in this sector for his entire career. He is a past president of the North West Timber Trade Association and is currently a board member of the Confederation of Timber Industries.
He has a well-earned reputation for driving customer service in both the merchanting and manufacturing sectors and has a track record of strong employee engagement and people development.

Staircase balustrade specialist Richard Burbidge has launched a nationwide network of Premier Centres, consisting of merchant partners offering retail excellence
Richard Burbidge’s Premier Centres have been designed to help to make selecting staircase renovation projects easy for trade customers. Located across the UK, Premier Centre customers are guaranteed to find an in-depth range of Richard Burbidge staircase balustrade parts in stock at all times.
Each centre will be equipped with in-store displays holding four popular product ranges, instantly available to complete any hallway project. Displays of Richard Burbidge’s premium ranges including IMMIX FUSION ELEMENTS and TRADEMARK will also be on show, as well as brochures and guides to support customers.
Premier Centres will also benefit from the Design Team referral scheme, making ordering products quick and easy and enabling merchants to maximise sales while providing customers with expert technical back up from the Richard Burbidge team..
Paul Lerigo, marketing director for The Archwood Group, said: “The Premier Centres are designed to enable merchants to take advantage of the opportunities in the staircase balustrade market, by simplifying the buying process to help merchants and their clients – whether they’re homeowners or installers to make the most of this sector.”
Archwood, which operates under the Richard Burbidge, Masons Timber Products and Atkinson & Kirby brands, is investing in a new group commercial centre and improved centralised warehousing and distribution operations, to deliver further service improvements to customers nationwide.
The new plans will see a significant expansion of a national distribution centre, based in Oswestry, where the company has already a made substantial investment and created 25 new jobs in the past 12 months.
The centre will now distribute the Atkinson & Kirby flooring and moulding ranges, as well as Richard Burbidge branded products. This will lead to the closure of a smaller facility in Ormskirk. The investment plans also include the opening of a new group commercial centre in Chester, bringing together the commercial teams from Oswestry, Ormskirk and London into a modern, efficient facility.
The group’s primary manufacturing site remains at Chirk where, over the past three years, it has made significant investment in its production capability with the creation of 115 new jobs.
“This is the next phase in the development of Archwood, as a £50m leader in the timber home improvement market,” said Archwood’s group chief executive Steve Underhill. “We have defined brands and product ranges serving clear market sectors, and now, by consolidating into group centres, we can create operating efficiencies and improved customer benefits.
“The significant investment in our group distribution centre in Oswestry will simplify our supply chain and improve the service offering to our customers across the group. Increasing the focus of our commercial functions and bringing them together in one location gives us an excellent platform for future growth and will increase opportunities to deliver innovation across the brands, as well as providing a more creative office environment for our team.”
Subject to employee consultation, the proposed developments are due for completion by September 2015.
